Hey guys, it’s Colby with a Summit and Tide Veterans Update. For this update, I am passing on a great opportunity many of us are not aware of, and could potentially save you thousands of dollars over your lifetime of exploration.
Recently, I was able to take my 8-year-old daughter to Yellowstone for her first time. On the way, we stopped at Craters of the Moon National Park in Central Idaho. Together, these two national parks were going to cost $35 and $20 respectively.
I am writing this to let you all know who can skip these entrance fees. First, if you are an veteran who enjoys being active, you and your family can pay for an annual pass for $80. Alternatively, anyone 62 or over, can buy a Senior Lifetime Pass for $80. This is not for veterans. Just for our seniors. Shout out to our elders!
Now, here’s the best part, for those of you who are like me and have a Veterans Health ID (VAHID), you can get a lifetime national pass; that is national parks, national monuments, BLM and BOR and even National Forests...for free! With a Veterans Health ID, you walk into an office or at 1000+ entrances to National Parks or National Forests...flash it and you get a lifetime pass for 5 minutes of your time. Gold Star members get the same deal. If your loved one fell while serving, you also qualify for this lifetime pass. Active-duty military and family also qualify for a free annual pass. If you are going to a national area or are close to one, you need to get this pass.
Also, did you know your VAHID is valid for a Real ID? You don't have to pay for a Real ID for travel. There are many things that our government does to help us veterans out...ask! I will continue to post things as they come up...keep exploring!
